To illustrate rural landscapes, the Beijing-based Chinese artist Xiao Fang Kai has visited well-known mansions in Suzhou several times. For Chinese, natural landscapes are not only the place men live in, but also the harbor of human soul. Therefore, the essence of Chinese art lies in men settling in nature. Xiao Fang Kai chooses gardens and mansions as themes to elaborate the classical Chinese philosophy which denotes that man is an integral part of nature. From the prospective, landscapes are not only landscapes but also the paradise people long for.
